Three Main Themes
- Growth must be read through booking structure: Ministry data through 12 August shows arrivals in the first 12 days of August up 5.0% year on year, while the visitor survey says 51% booked flights and accommodation separately and 45% bought packages.
- Resorts are connecting individual facilities into reasons to stay: Grand Park Kodhipparu combines a villa, reef interpretation, yoga and dining in a three-night product; Anantara Kihavah uses year-round stargazing; Soneva's three recognised resorts emphasise deeper and multi-stop journeys.
- Sellable experiences need clear value and operating limits: Visitors rated accommodation and dining value positively but were more price-sensitive about souvenirs and spas. Moderate seas remain around the two northern stations, and marine activities remain subject to the latest MMS update and on-site decisions.
Industry Observation
Market recovery does not create one universal route to conversion. The 51% who book flights and accommodation separately need quickly comparable room, meal, transfer and cancellation terms; the 45% who buy packages need a complete price, a clear responsible party and one confirmation. Quoting only the room rate postpones the costs that often decide the sale.
New products also show a move from facilities to journeys. Grand Park Kodhipparu links a three-night stay, marine-biologist interpretation, yoga and glass-floor dining, while Anantara Kihavah makes stargazing a year-round 2026 anniversary experience. The sellable unit is not merely “a house reef” or “stargazing”, but the room, duration, inclusions, booking method and weather alternative.
MMS station cards for 16 August are broadly settled, but Hulhule and Hanimaadhoo retain moderate seas and Hanimaadhoo has slight showers. Regional forecasts can prioritise checks but cannot determine conditions on a specific route, dive site or resort activity.
Market Data
The latest accessible Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation publication is Maldives Tourism Updates - 13 August 2026, published on 13 August with statistics through 12 August 2026. International visitors totalled 1,338,463, comprising 1,311,632 tourists, 11,254 business visitors and 15,577 cruise visitors. Tourist arrivals from 1–12 August were 83,846, up 5.0% year on year.
| Indicator | Official figure | Dolphin View |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 tourists | 1,311,632; about -4.5% YoY | The August improvement has not closed the annual gap. |
| 1–12 August | 83,846; +5.0% YoY | Respond faster to qualified leads, but do not raise all dates uniformly. |
| China | 239,219; 18.2%; No. 1 | Prioritise Chinese service, family products and flight-day connections. |
| Russia | 192,453; 14.7%; No. 2 | Quote long stays, all-inclusive plans, currency and transfers together. |
| United Kingdom | 103,125; 7.9%; No. 3 | Check festive supplements and cancellation rules for winter sales. |
| Accommodation | Resorts 73.3%; guesthouses 22.3%; hotels 2.4%; liveaboards 1.9% | Different accommodation types require different delivery terms. |
| Operational beds | 68,406 of 69,156; 98.9% | National operation rates do not replace date-specific inventory. |
| Entry gateways | VIA 1,307,429 (97.7%); seaports 15,577 (1.2%) | Allow separate buffers for international arrival and island transfer. |
Dolphin View: The short August window is growing, but the annual total remains below last year. Convert source-market strength into faster Chinese responses and transparent total prices, while checking room status, transfers, meal plans, supplements, payment currency and cancellation terms for each stay date.
Weather and Sea Conditions
MMS Tomorrow forecasts for all five stations correspond to 16 August 2026 and were updated between 07:00 and 07:20 Maldives time on 15 August. The national general forecast is valid from 10:00 on 15 August to 10:00 on 16 August Maldives time: generally fine apart from a few showers; southwesterly to westerly winds at 10–18 mph; moderate seas and 3–6 ft waves, with no advisory. The three southern stations use their station marine forecast of 2–4 ft, with slight seas becoming moderate in showers.
| Station | Area | Weather | Temperature | Wind | Sea | Wave height and validity |

72-Hour Decision Reference
- Next 48 hours | 17 August: Hulhule, Kadhdhoo, Kaadehdhoo and Gan are fine; Hanimaadhoo has slight showers; temperatures are 31–32°C. Hanimaadhoo has W winds at 13 mph, Hulhule SW at 12 mph and the south 8–10 mph. Hulhule and Hanimaadhoo remain moderate, while the other three stations are slight.
- Next 72 hours | 18 August: All five stations are fine at 32–33°C. Hulhule shifts WSW at 8 mph and becomes slight, while Gan rises to SSE 13 mph. Hanimaadhoo stays moderate and Gan becomes moderate; the other three are slight.
- Action: Focus on moderate seas around Hulhule and Hanimaadhoo and northern showers on 16–17 August; add a Gan wind and sea check on 18 August. Speedboats, seaplanes, diving, snorkelling, surfing, fishing, sandbanks and beach activities remain subject to daily MMS updates and decisions by the resort, carrier or licensed operator. Do not extend regional forecasts into certainty for any specific route, dive site or resort.
Selected Industry Updates
1. Three Soneva resorts enter Forbes Travel Guide's 2026 Edge List
Hotelier Maldives reported on 15 August that Soneva Fushi, Soneva Jani and Soneva Secret were named to the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 Edge List. Its “Curated Journeys” theme considers exceptional access, innovation, environmental and community stewardship, and elevated experiences in remote locations. Soneva Secret has only 13 villas, while the three resorts create distinct settings in Baa, Noonu and Makunudhoo Atolls.
Dolphin View: Use the recognition to explain differences and multi-resort journeys, not merely as an award label. Confirm inter-island transport, minimum stays, baggage, meal plans and cancellation terms before choosing one long stay or a combination.
2. Grand Park Kodhipparu turns its reef into a complete three-night product
Grand Park Kodhipparu launched Kodhipparu Reef Connection on 14 August: three nights in a Reef Pool Villa, a complimentary half-board upgrade, daily sunrise and sunset yoga, a Blue Mind reef session with a marine biologist, a three-course dinner for two, a glass-floor table, sunset cocktails and canapés. The resort is about 20 minutes by speedboat from VIA.
Dolphin View: Confirm the three-night threshold, room category, meal upgrade, capacity and cancellation alternatives. Reef observations remain subject to weather, sea conditions and ability; wildlife cannot be guaranteed.
3. Anantara Kihavah marks the brand's 25th year with year-round stargazing
Anantara Hotels & Resorts announced its anniversary collection on 14 August. Anantara Kihavah Villas highlights Celestial Maldives throughout 2026, with its astronomy guide using the overwater SKY observatory telescope to introduce galaxies, constellations and planets. It forms part of a wider slow-travel and wellbeing collection rather than a one-night dinner.
Dolphin View: Sell it to honeymoon, family-learning and slow-travel clients only with booking, age, timing, cloud-cover and alternative-arrangement details. Never guarantee a particular celestial object on a particular night.
4. Two Centara resorts set different transfer benefits for the Saudi National Day window
Centara Hotels & Resorts published Saudi National Day products on 13 August. Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives offers return speedboat transfers for two adults on new stays of at least four nights through 15 October. Centara Machchafushi offers 25% off seaplanes for at least four nights and 50% for nine nights or more through the same date. Separate spa credits depend on the meal plan.
Dolphin View: Translate the holiday theme into passenger count, length of stay, transfer mode and meal plan. Verify new-booking limits, child transfers, taxes, card guarantees, combination restrictions and flight connections.
5. Visitor survey: 51% book separately and 45% buy packages
The Ministry's Maldives Visitor Survey Report October 2025, released on 15 July, found that 51% booked flights and accommodation separately and 45% bought packages. Younger visitors decided later: 28% of respondents aged 21–28 booked within one month of departure.
Dolphin View: Separate bookers need comparable room, transfer and cancellation terms; package buyers need a complete price and clear responsibility. Prepare both quote structures and state inventory expiry.
6. Accommodation and dining rate well for value; spas and souvenirs face price resistance
The same survey found 58% rated accommodation good value and 57% said the same of food and beverage. However, 42% considered souvenirs expensive and 40% said spas were expensive. Overall satisfaction remained high: 57% scored the holiday 10/10 and 42% said it exceeded expectations.
Dolphin View: High satisfaction does not replace an explanation of extras. Present spa duration, taxes, credits and souvenir spending as transparent options to prevent an on-island price gap.
7. Snorkelling, relaxation and marine observation are the three leading experience needs
The survey found 67% snorkelled, 63% relaxed and 54% joined wildlife observation involving manta rays, sharks or dolphins. Products therefore need both low-friction rest and verifiable marine operating capability; seasonal presence never guarantees a species at a fixed place or time.
Dolphin View: Segment enquiries by swimming ability, desired balance of rest and activity, and tolerance for boat time. State weather, sea, age, health, certification and operator limits.
8. Visit Maldives uses two Coco Collection resorts to explain participatory culture
Visit Maldives published a Coco Collection culture case on 11 August involving Coco Palm Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, covering Maldivian food, crafts, music, dance, island stories and community connections. The case turns culture from decoration into participation, while actual schedules remain property-specific.
Dolphin View: This suits families, repeat visitors and clients seeking more than water activities. Confirm dates, language, price, community etiquette and weather alternatives; do not present a brand-level example as a daily inclusion.
9. InterContinental Maldives creates an eight-course limited dining journey
Visit Maldives published InterContinental Maldives' “Around the World in 8 Courses” case on 11 August, connecting regional flavours through an eight-course sequence. It adds value for food-led and celebration clients, but dates, prices, beverages and allergen arrangements require hotel confirmation.
Dolphin View: The sellable unit is date, seat, menu, price and dietary restrictions. Check continued availability, meal-plan inclusion, children's alternatives and cancellation terms.
10. INEO uses more than 120 Maldives projects to frame lifecycle operating cost
A 28 July Hotelier Maldives case says INEO has worked on more than 120 Maldivian island-resort projects covering kitchens, cold rooms, refrigeration, ventilation, bars and laundries, plus design, logistics, commissioning, training, spares and after-sales support. It identifies a common kitchen-renovation window of eight to ten months and highlights sea transport, salt corrosion and remote maintenance.
Dolphin View: Renovations must compare shutdown windows, spare-part lead times, energy, maintenance access and training, not just purchase price. Sales teams should check works areas, dining alternatives and noise notices before selling refurbishment periods.
Daily Quote
The sale value of an island product depends on transparent total pricing, bookable experiences and weather limits being clear at the same time.
