Three Main Themes
- Winter airlift is moving from intention to concrete schedules: Bulgaria's GullivAir has published the dates, weekly pattern and aircraft for direct Malé–Sofia flights from 6 November, while Visit Maldives and Belavia briefed 100 Belarusian travel professionals ahead of planned direct flights in December. Channels can begin market preparation, but customer commitments must remain tied to bookable airline inventory.
- Resort competition is shifting from standalone discounts to verifiable content: Festive calendars, family entertainment, participatory coral programmes, sustainability certification and management teams are becoming the main differentiators. Sales messages must state dates, booking conditions and actual delivery boundaries.
- Rough seas remain the main delivery constraint on the target date: MMS station cards show moderate rain or showers, while the regional marine forecast indicates rough seas, waves of 4–7 feet and gusts of 40–45 mph during showers. Transfers and water activities cannot be judged from a station-level “moderate” or “slight” sea state alone.
Industry Observation
The most important development today is that two winter European connectivity stories are at different stages of maturity. GullivAir has provided a weekly operating window from 6 November to 26 March 2027, specific departure and arrival times and the A330-200 aircraft, giving product teams the minimum information needed for itinerary design. Belavia's December direct service remains in the destination-education and market-warm-up stage. Both can broaden access from Eastern Europe, but only flights that are searchable, ticketable and compatible with island transfers can enter a customer commitment.
New resort content falls into three areas: festive programmes, environmental action and management. Fushifaru and Eri Maldives have broken Christmas, New Year and Orthodox Christmas into dated programmes; Grand Park Kodhipparu has designed its first Thanksgiving dinner for the US market; JOALI Maldives, OBLU Select at Sangeli and five Sun Siyam resorts have turned coral planting, operational resource controls and third-party certification into product evidence. For the trade, the usable selling points are activity dates, participation rules, charges, annual review and follow-up mechanisms—not broad labels such as “rich” or “green.”
Weather remains the most immediate delivery variable. The MMS regional marine forecast indicates rough seas and waves of 4–7 feet across the areas covered by all five stations, with gusts reaching 45 mph in showers in the Hulhule area. Even though Gan's station card shows a slight sea state, it does not override the higher regional risk. Sales, service and ground operations should place the latest forecast, carrier decisions and alternatives in the same travel chain.

Cumulative arrivals reached 1,461,682, about 4% below roughly 1.52 million in the same period of 2025. China, Russia and the United Kingdom remained the three largest source markets.

Dolphin view: As of 2 September, China remained first, resorts handled nearly three quarters of tourists, and Velana carried almost all international arrivals. New winter direct flights create source-market opportunities, but procurement and quotations should still rely on currently bookable flights, real inventory, tax-inclusive pricing and executable transfers.
Weather and Sea Conditions
All five MMS Tomorrow cards correspond to 13 September 2026 and were updated at around 06:20–06:30 Maldives time on 12 September. The national and regional marine forecast is valid from 10:00 on 12 September to 10:00 on 13 September 2026, Maldives time. Scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected. Winds are west to northwesterly or southwest to westerly at 12–20 knots, gusting to 40 mph during showers and up to 45 mph in the Hulhule area. All five areas have rough seas and waves of 4–7 feet, with a caution advisory. This validity ends at 10:00 on the target date; later operations require the next MMS forecast.

Rain is shown at all stations. Hulhule and Hanimaadhoo are coolest at 26°C, while Hulhule has the highest station wind at 18 mph. A moderate or slight station sea state does not override the rough regional marine forecast. Operation of marine activities remains subject to the latest MMS update and the on-site safety decisions of carriers and licensed operators.
72-Hour Decision Reference
- Next 48 hours | 14 September: Overall, showers continue at all five stations: showers at Hulhule, Hanimaadhoo and Kadhdhoo, and slight showers at Kaadehdhoo and Gan. The key change is Gan warming to 29°C and the two southern station sea states easing to slight, while rain persists from the north through the south-central area. Sea risk remains moderate at Hulhule, Hanimaadhoo and Kadhdhoo and slight at Kaadehdhoo and Gan; the regional update available at that time must determine shower-related wind and wave risk.

- Action: On the morning of 13 September, prioritise the 4–7-foot rough-sea risk across all five areas, the 45 mph gust ceiling around Hulhule and nationwide rain. Continue to watch northern and central showers on 14–15 September. Speedboats, seaplanes, diving, snorkelling, surfing, fishing, sandbanks and outdoor activities need postponement, cancellation or land-based alternatives. The operating boundary is the latest MMS update and decisions by carriers and licensed activity providers; do not extend a regional forecast into a definite conclusion for any route, dive site or resort.
Selected Industry Updates
1. GullivAir publishes winter Malé–Sofia schedule from 6 November
Hotelier Maldives reported on 11 September that Bulgarian airline GullivAir plans scheduled direct flights between Malé and Sofia from 6 November 2026 to 26 March 2027, using an Airbus A330-200. Malé–Sofia will depart Fridays at 16:30 and arrive at 23:30 local time; Sofia–Malé will depart Saturdays at 19:45 and arrive at 07:15 the next day, creating a nonstop gateway for Bulgaria and Southeast Europe.
Dolphin view: Channels can prepare Saturday-arrival island transfers and Friday-departure checkout arrangements, but should not present the planned schedule as ticket protection until inventory appears on the airline website or reservation system. Confirm time zones, baggage, interline protection and last-transfer times per booking.
2. Visit Maldives and Belavia brief 100 Belarusian travel professionals ahead of December flights
Visit Maldives Corporation said on 11 September that it and Belavia held a Maldives–Belarus connectivity webinar on 10 September for 100 Belarusian travel agents and tour operators. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Maldives Airports Company Limited, the session introduced accommodation types, tourism products and experiences ahead of Belavia's planned direct flights in December 2026.
Dolphin view: Suppliers can prepare Russian-language assets, winter inventory, long-stay meal plans and child policies. A webinar and planned launch are not proof of sale; quotations should wait for the airline to publish start dates, frequency, baggage and change conditions.
3. Rah Gili appoints a general manager with more than 30 years' experience
Hotelier Maldives reported on 11 September that Rah Gili, the first island in the SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS collection, appointed André Kretschmann as General Manager, responsible for operations, dining, wellbeing, experiences and the service team. He has more than three decades of international luxury-hospitality experience and has worked on Maldivian pre-opening and operating assignments including Cheval Blanc Randheli.
Dolphin view: The appointment strengthens opening and operations leadership, but it does not mean that every facility, room type and service is on sale. Wait for written confirmation of the opening date, first-phase facilities, transfers, meal plans, child policy and soft-opening boundaries.
4. Robinson Club Noonu wins “Best Fun & Friendly Resort” for the second time
Hotelier Maldives reported on 11 September that Robinson Club Noonu again received “Best Fun & Friendly Resort” at the TTM Awards 2026, following its 2024 win in the same category and marking a fourth consecutive TTM award for ROBINSON's two Maldives resorts. Winners were selected through online voting on the TTM website across 32 categories in 2026.
Dolphin view: The award supports family, sport and social positioning. Verify the actual schedule for children and teenagers, yoga, HOT IRON, padel and special weeks. An award does not mean every activity runs on every stay date, is complimentary or needs no reservation.
5. JOALI Maldives coral plantings reach 11,124 fragments
Hotelier Maldives reported on 9 September that the JOALI Reef Restoration Programme, operating since November 2022, has planted 11,124 coral fragments across several nursery and artificial-structure systems, with 1,500 already outplanted to the house reef. The programme includes 57 spider frames, 24 mineral-accretion tables, rope and grid nurseries, and has ministry approval to continue restoration work.
Dolphin view: Private coral planting, frame adoption and updates every three months for one year create a traceable participatory product. Confirm price, age limits, sea-condition restrictions and the update method. Fragment counts are not a natural coral-coverage measure and do not prove restoration is complete.
6. OBLU Select at Sangeli brings coral restoration into daily operating metrics
A Hotelier Maldives feature published on 10 September described how the Muraka Marine Conservation Centre handles coral nurseries, reef monitoring, data collection and guest education while resort meetings also review water, electricity, food waste, chemicals, diesel and boat fuel. Guests may adopt one coral fragment or, under guidance, attach more than 40 fragments to a full frame and receive progress updates.
Dolphin view: The sales value lies in a complete cycle of participation, monitoring and feedback, not a one-time photo activity. Confirm frequency, charges, swimming requirements and bad-weather alternatives, and do not generalise one resort programme into an island-wide ecological result.
7. Fushifaru publishes a festive product for 24 December–10 January
Hotelier Maldives reported on 10 September that Fushifaru's 2026 festive season will feature festival-style décor, sunset DJs, live music, fire shows, flair bartending and a New Year's Eve pool party, together with children's crafts, pizza making, treasure hunts, mini Olympics and Boduberu workshops. For stays from 24 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, the early-booking offer gives savings of up to 25% on villas, extra-person charges and return seaplane transfers for stays of at least five nights.
Dolphin view: Family and younger segments can be matched to children's programming and nightlife respectively, but confirm the daily calendar, compulsory dinners, minimum stay, seaplane schedule and promotional inventory for each stay. Outdoor shows, marine activities and fireworks remain subject to weather and operations.
8. All five Sun Siyam Maldives resorts obtain “Green Globe Certification”
Hotelier Maldives reported on 10 September that Siyam World Maldives, Iru Fushi Beach & Spa, Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Sun Siyam Iru Veli and Vilu Reef have all obtained Green Globe Certification. The standard audits 44 core criteria and more than 400 compliance indicators across sustainable management, socioeconomic responsibility, cultural heritage and environmental protection, and requires annual renewal.
Dolphin view: Portfolio-wide certification helps answer corporate and sustainability-focused clients, but sales teams should still identify visible measures and participatory activities at each resort. Certification is an annual audit, not a zero-emissions claim; the optional US$10 contribution per villa per stay must be described as voluntary.
9. Eri Maldives' first festive season runs from 22 December to 7 January
Hotelier Maldives reported on 9 September that Eri Maldives' first festive season since opening, themed “La Dolce Vita,” runs from 22 December 2026 to 7 January 2027. It includes a Christmas lighting and banquet, beach games on 29 December, a New Year's gala and seaside party, wine tasting on 2 January, a local crafts and street-food market on 5 January, and Orthodox Christmas dining.
Dolphin view: The dated programme can match Christmas, New Year and Orthodox Christmas clients, but it does not replace reservation confirmation. Check compulsory dinners, meal-plan inclusions, child charges, market and experience reservations, and weather alternatives for fireworks and water activities.
10. Grand Park Kodhipparu launches its first Thanksgiving dinner on 26 November
Visit Maldives Corporation reported on 10 September that Grand Park Kodhipparu will hold its first Thanksgiving dinner at the overwater FireDoor restaurant on 26 November 2026, with a family-sharing menu. The resort also published 30% savings for stays of four nights or more and 15% savings for bookings made within 21 days of arrival. It has 120 villas and is about 20 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport.
Dolphin view: The product suits US travellers, families and small groups, while the short speedboat transfer supports short stays. Confirm whether dinner is included in the meal plan, seating and child arrangements, offer combinability, taxes and the bad-weather venue plan; “first” does not guarantee availability.
Together, the ten updates show winter competition moving from market expectations into the concrete delivery of schedules, calendars, certification and participatory experiences. Every selling point should be tied to dates, live inventory, cost and operating boundaries.
