Three Main Themes

Industry Observation

The five-day visit combines government, aviation and travel-trade engagement. For sales teams, a market's strength must be translated into flight days, connection risk, payment currency, length-of-stay demand and cancellation terms, rather than expressed only as a ranking.
The proposed GST amendment requires especially precise language. It targets services supplied to the Maldivian market by offshore booking platforms, overseas travel agencies and foreign tour operators. The bill estimates MVR 1.6 billion in additional annual revenue and proposes an effective date of 1 October. Until Parliament completes its review and MIRA defines registration and payment arrangements, sales teams should not add charges or rewrite tax clauses on their own.

The proposal estimates MVR 1.6 billion in annual revenue, including MVR 299.3 million from overseas travel agents and MVR 1.3 billion from foreign tour operators, and proposes taking effect on 1 October.
